History’s Very Best Hard Rock Bands
While today’s hard rock is often intermixed with heavy metal, there was once a time where it was a complete genre of its own, and many hard rock bands came long before many of the music genres that we are so familiar with today. Starting toward the end of the 1960s and beginning of the 1970s, it didn’t take hard rock to gain a huge following in the music scene. With its heavier riffs, unique lyrics, and darker theme, hard rock immediately stood out amongst other genres of the time.
With that in mind, let’s look at some of the highest-rated hard rock bands that the musical world has ever known.
AC/DC
There aren’t many people alive today that haven’t heard of the famous Australian hard rock band AC/DC. Started at the end of 1973 by Malcolm and Angus Young, the band took some years to gain momentum in the music scene. AC/DC was headed by Bon Scott until he passed away in 1979 from alcohol poisoning. The brand brought in Brian Johnson to front performances, and it was at this point that AC/DC really found its stride and became something of a sensational hit overnight. Many consider them the best rock band of all time, and it’s not hard to see why.
Van Halen
Van Halen is the band that delivered some of the best rock songs that the world has ever heard. Started in Pasadena, California, at the start of 1972, the band became known for its incredible guitar play and its memorable solos. It got its name from frontman Eddie Van Halen, who many regard as among the best guitarists that ever lived, and his name is still extremely well-known today. Along with Halen, the band also consisted of David Lee Roth, Alex Van Halen, as well as Michael Anthony.
Metallica
Metallica is a rock band that very few people need an introduction to. Many people believe that Metallica is responsible for making hard rock more popular among the public and were the progenitors of the thrash metal genre. James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich are legends in the heavy metal scene, and their number one hit Enter Sandman, is still regularly played on rock stations across the world.
Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin entered the public eye during a time when rock was still gaining a footing in the music scene. They are considered the very first hard rock band of all time, and many still regard them as the best overall band ever, and their reach can be found in everything from television shows to games to online Aussie slots. Formed in 1968 in the city of London, they were originally named the New Yardbirds would eventually change their name at a later stage. Robert Plant was the vocalist, while the legendary Jimmy Page was lead guitarist, followed by John Paul Jones on the keyboard and bass guitar, and their talented drummer John Bonham.
