Very few things in life are as exciting as going to a live music show. While things may look a bit different this year, with the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down concert venues all over the world, there is still a lot of hope that one day, our favourite artists will return to our beloved stages. All over the world, there are some incredible concert venues that have previously hosted some of the most iconic musicians of all time. Paradiso, Amsterdam
This venue certainly lives up to its name – it is a music lover’s paradise. Long hailed as one of the best places to catch Amsterdam’s most popular events and shows, this venue is a 19th Century church that has been converted into a massive music venue. Over the years, Paradiso has attracted some of the biggest names in pop, rock and electronic artists in the world. These artists include the likes of Pink Floyd, Metallica, The Rolling Stones and Lady Gaga.
Le Grand Rex, Paris
Doubling as an art deco style cinema that dates back to 1932, Le Grand Rex is not only renowned for being one of the city’s best music venues, it is also its biggest. It often hosts sold-out showers as it features a ceiling that is made to look like a starry night sky. Musical legends that have performed at this venue include the likes of Tom Waits, Radiohead and Tori Amos.
Columbia Halle, Berlin
Berlin is well known for its nightlife, so it comes as no surprise that it has a feature on a list of incredible live music venues. Columbia Halle boasts an ultra-modern design, as well as second story balconies to accommodate the thousands of concert goers that frequent the venue. It is also hailed as having some of Europe’s best acoustics and lightshows, giving guests a multisensory experience.
The Congress Theatre, Chicago
The Congress Theatre is well-known for being Chicago’s premiere live music venue. Previously a 1920s movie house, it is now also an official landmark. The theatre itself is a work of art, with delicate, ornate decorations and an interior with a high dome, making for excellent sound quality. The Congress Theatre’s mainstage has seen the likes of some of the most iconic talents throughout the years, including the incomparable Prince, Sufjan Stevens, The Beastie Boys and Skrillex.
The Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles
Any musician worth their weight has played at the Hollywood Bowl in the City of Angels. This venue is well known for having some of the best views of Los Angeles and has the capacity to welcome tens of thousands through its gates. This outdoor amphitheatre is also located just beneath the Hollywood sign, making for the perfect showbiz experience. The venue itself has featured in numerous films and television shows, making it famous in its own right. However, it has also hosted the likes of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Blink 182 and Coldplay.
